The St. Louis Jewish Light will hold its annual Primetime Expo, Better Living for Baby Boomers and Senior Adults, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Jewish Community Center Staenberg Family Complex gymnasium, 2 Millstone Campus Drive in Creve Coeur.
New this year, the Jewish Light has partnered with the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival to bring Dr. Arthur Agatston to the event as its keynote speaker. Agatston is the author of the South Beach Diet series of books and a well-known cardiologist. He will discuss his new book, the “South Beach Diet Gluten Solution.” Agatston will also discuss active and healthy aging issues. He will answer audience questions following his presentation.
Agatston grew up on Long Island, the son and grandson of ophthalmologists. His first book, “The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss,” began as a program for his patients in Miami Beach, and was published in 2003. The diet emphasized good carbohydrates, good fats and lean meat then and that is still the program today.
Agatston is a cardiologist in private practice in Miami as well as an associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine and he directs the Mt. Sinai Non-Invasive Cardiac Lab. He is an expert consultant for the Clinical Trials Committee of the National Institutes of Health and co-director of the annual Symposium on Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. He has served on committees of the American Society of Echocardiology, the American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Atherosclerosis Imaging, where he is a member of the founding board of directors. He lives in Miami Beach with his wife, Sari, and their two children.
