Nishmah, the J plan 2nd annual Lynnie’s Light for Life event

The community is invited to Lynnie’s Light for Life, a Sept. 5 event celebrating the life of Lynne Palan and raising funds for Nishmah and Sharsheret Supports.

The family of Lynnie Isaacs Palan (z”l), Nishmah and the Jewish Community Center invite the community to commemorate this inspiring woman. Lynnie’s Light for Life takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the J’s Staenberg Family Complex – Day Camp Pavilion, and is sponsored by the Sidney & Bobbi Guller Family Foundation.

This year’s light will come from the flames of bonfires and the performance of fire dancers. It also will come from Lynnie’s Light’s first honoree, Michelle Mills, who will inspire and educate participants by sharing her own personal health experience with a BRCA2 gene mutation.

Palan was a pioneer and leader of both Nishmah: The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Project and Sharsheret Supports St. Louis, a collaborative project of Nishmah and the national, not-for-profit Sharsheret organization. Through her passionate volunteerism and professional work in these organizations and many others, she was dedicated to building vibrant communities and changing lives, especially for individuals living with, or at increased genetic risk of developing cancer.

Palan lost her battle to breast cancer on April 10, 2018, leaving a legacy of philanthropy among her family and friends. Proceeds from Lynnie’s Light for Life will ensure Sharsheret Supports is present for women and families in all stages of a breast or ovarian cancer journey—from pre-diagnosis, during treatment and while managing life post-treatment.

To attend and/or contribute to Lynnie’s Light for Life, visit www.jccstl.com/lynnie and register by Aug. 23. Entry to the event is free and open to all ages. Donations of any amount are appreciated. Tax-deductible donations starting at $100 include a fire log the night of the event to dedicate in honor of or in memory of loved ones.
