New health center opens at Camp Sabra

Camp Sabra in the Lake of the Ozarks has a new health center operating this summer.

“The health center is visited by campers nearly 14,000 times per summer,” said Terri Grossman, director of Camp Sabra. “A new health center is an obvious commitment to the safety and well-being of all the campers (and guests) who visit Sabra each year.”

The 3,000-square-foot facility includes two exam rooms, two boys’ and two girls’ dorm rooms with shared baths, two nurse’s quarters with baths, a medical staff office, reception area and medication room with pass-out window, water-filling station and hand-washing station. A laundry area, kitchenette and dishwasher are also available.

“We’re particularly excited about the medication window – it will be an efficient way to handle daily distribution, and it will keep the healthy kids from having to come inside, where they might be exposed to contagious kids. The rooms for the nurses will provide them a comfortable place to stay if they need to stay with kids who have to spend the night. It’s just a huge improvement all around,” Grossman said, adding that the construction of the new center was made possible through a gift by the Fox Family Foundation.

Other improvements recently completed at the residential camp include a new water system and two new activity pavilions.
