National Council of Jewish Women-St. Louis will honor Marlene Hammerman with its Hannah G. Solomon Founder’s Award, NCJW’s most prestigious recognition, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at Neiman Marcus in Plaza Frontenac (second floor). The award will be presented during NCJW’s Celebrating Women event, recognizing the volunteer efforts of all NCJW members.
The Hannah G. Solomon award recognizes honorees who exemplify the NCJW mission of improving the quality of life for women, children and families. Hammerman has been active in NCJW for many years and she has spent more than 20 years counseling pregnant women about their options as a social worker at Reproductive Health Services. “Hammerman advocates for changes in public policy that will impact everyone, but while that work is being done, she does what she can to make a difference, one life at a time,” notes a news release.
“We consider a broad range of nominees, women and men, whose tireless efforts in many facets of the community truly resonate with our ideals,” said Darien Arnstein, chair of the selection committee. “Marlene joins an impressive list of previous awardees who have made vital contributions to the betterment of our society.”
The cost to attend Celebrating Women is $36 for NCJW members and $50 for non-members. Other sponsorship opportunities are available. There will be a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception following the program. RSVP by Friday, Sept. 23 at www.ncjwstl.org or call 314-993-5181. Sen. Claire McCaskill is the honorary chair of this year’s event.
