Mussar practice retreat at Shaare Emeth
Published May 11, 2017
The Mussar Institute will offer its annual Mussar Practice Retreat at Congregation Shaare Emeth from Sunday, May 21 through Wednesday, May 24. The retreat will give students of Mussar a chance to integrate their studies into their lives, guided by experienced and senior Mussar leaders.
The retreat offers participants three days of learning and experiencing classic Mussar spiritual practices, such as chanting, journaling, meditation and kabbalot (practical tangible ways that we use Mussar in one’s day-to-day life) to sharpen one’s Mussar perspectives. Participants will be able to have one-on-one time with a faculty member as well as participate in a Mussar va’ad (a small group designed to support Mussar practices).
Participants will choose middot (traits) to focus on during the retreat, and deepen their work on the middot using different spiritual practices, with whole-group learning as well as individual “down-time” to reflect, walk, pray or rest.
The retreat is open to the community; anyone with an interest in Mussar is welcome, whether beginner or advanced. The cost is $495, includes all materials and meals. The retreat and all meals will be held at Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road in Creve Coeur.
