The Kol Rinah church-synagogue swap will soon move one step closer to completion. The Conservative synagogue plans to break ground Sunday, Aug. 19 on the first two phases of construction at its future home in Clayton.

The $7 million project at the former Journey Christian Church, at 7701 Maryland Ave., includes an addition to the main sanctuary, a new lobby and elevator and renovations of its social hall, classrooms and meeting rooms. The congregation aims to complete the construction by summer 2019.

The church, meanwhile, will take over the synagogue’s former space in University City.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 10:30 a.m.
