The Sh’ma Listen! Speaker Series and Congregation Temple Israel will welcome author and Kansas City religious leader Rabbi Mark Levin for an event Friday, Feb. 1 at Temple Israel.

Levin, who served Congregation Beth Torah in Overland Park, Kan. from 1988 to 2014, is the author of “Praying the Bible: How Bible Quotations in Prayers Explode Meanings, End Boredom, and Make Each Praying Experience Unique.”

The Shabbat evening program starts at 6 p.m. with a pre-oneg with appetizers and Shabbat wine followed by Shabbat services, featuring a d’var Torah by Levin. At 7:30 p.m., guests can enjoy desserts during a Q&A and book signing with Levin, whose book will be available that evening for a suggested $20 donation.

Levin served as a pulpit rabbi for 38 years in Kansas City. He writes answers to religious questions for McClatchy newspapers, which includes the Kansas City Star. He serves part time as chaplain for Jewish Family Services.

This event is open to the community. Temple Israel is located at  #1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive (at the corner of Spoede and Ladue roads) in Creve Coeur. For more information, go to www.ti-stl.org/Levin.
