The Rabbi Robert P. Jacobs Jewish Fund for Human Needs (JFHN) has awarded $24,000 in grants to nine local nonprofit organizations. JFHN aims to establish a Jewish presence in agencies in the general community that provide direct services to those in need in the St. Louis region.
“Our grants in this round will help meet a wide range of critical needs,” said Rabbi Brigitte Rosenberg, chair of the Fund, in a statement. “The nonprofits receiving these JFHN grants address health care, employment, clothing, education, and housing and emergency shelter. Children in low-income families, women who have been living on the street, immigrants and refugees, people who are uninsured, and citizens who are incarcerated or just out of prison will all benefit from the great work of our recipient agencies.”
The nine agencies receiving a grant from JFHN in this round of awards are:
• Assisi House
• English Tutoring Project
• Health Equipment Lending Program
• Health Protection and Education Services
• Helping Hand Me Downs
• Inside Dharma
• North Side Community School
• Pianos for People
• St. Louis University Prison Program.
JFHN grants are awarded twice a year, after a thorough review by an allocation committee, which conducts site visits and reviews applications. The committee’s recommendations must be approved by the fund’s co-sponsors, the Jewish Community Relations Council and the St. Louis Rabbinical Association.
Since its founding in 1985, the Jewish Fund for Human Needs has awarded about $800,000 to 180 nonprofit agencies in the St. Louis region. More information on JFHN is available at jfhn.org.
