Jewish Light welcomes new board president

There are some familiar faces returning to the St. Louis Jewish Light Board of Trustees.

Former board presidents Richard Flom, Gianna Jacobson and John Greenberg were installed as trustees at the Light’s annual meeting April 21 at a luncheon at the Jewish Community Center’s Arts and Education Building.

“I am especially excited about the fact that we have three former presidents joining the board because that speaks to the importance of the Light as an institution,” said Steve Gallant, who was installed as the new board president after Jane Tzinberg Rubin completed her two-year term.

Laurie Chod, Marcy Cornfeld, Bethe Growe and Helene Sherman are also joining the board.

Of the new members, Gallant said, “I think they are going to bring a certain perspective, a community-oriented perspective, that will enable us to lay the foundation for the future as we continue to reimagine what the Light will be.”

For a board president, one of the most important tasks is recruiting “committed, talented” board members, said Rubin.

“Our newest members augment an already extremely capable and dedicated board, broadening the perspectives and backgrounds essential to continuing to improve our publications and processes,” she said.

Retiring trustees are: Yale Hollander, Diana Iskiwitch, Gary Kodner (a past president of the Light), Anita Kraus, Avi Rosenzweig and Sheri Sherman.
