Jewish Environmental Initiative plans events celebrating Project Noah week

The Jewish Environmental Initiative (JEI), a committee of the JCRC, is once again promoting Project Noah: A Week for the Environment, from Oct. 23-30 (including Shabbat Noach on Oct. 29). Two free, community wide events are planned for Oct. 16 and 23.

The first community event for Project Noah week is a Jewish community tree planting at 1 p.m. Sunday Oct. 16 at the Jewish Community Center Staenberg Family Complex, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. Participants will meet at the north end of the complex, near the entrance to the pre-school and the adult day care center. The event is co-sponsored by JEI and St. Louis Chapter Hadassah. Rabbi Randy Fleisher of Central Reform Congregation and a past Chair of JEI will lead a short opening service. No prior experience with planting trees is needed and all ages are welcome. JEI was founded in 1998 with the goal of planting one tree for each Jewish person in St. Louis.

The second free community event for Project Noah is JEI’s annual “How To” program. This year’s program, “How to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient,” takes place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at The Green Center (a co-sponsor of the event), located at 8025 Blackberry in University City. Participants will learn about ways they can help the environment and lower their utility bills by making room-by- room changes in their homes. Scheduled speakers are Gary Steps of Butterfly Energy Works and Kathleen Engel of HomeNav,

While both events are free, space is limited and RSVPs are required. For more information or to RSVP, contact Gail Wechsler at [email protected] or 314-442-3894.
