JCRC, SLU plan interfaith hunger seder March 19
Published March 6, 2013
In conjunction with a national mobilization focused on poverty issues, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and St. Louis University (SLU) are organizing an interfaith Hunger Awareness Seder at Boileau Hall on the SLU campus 4:30 p.m. Tuesday March 19. The seder, entitled “Let All Who are Hungry Come and Eat,” will provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about the deep problem of hunger in our St. Louis region and beyond. Participants will also learn what they can do personally in the fight to end hunger. This is the second year both organizations are presenting a seder on this topic.
In addition to JCRC and the SLU Center for Service and Community Engagement, other co-sponsors of the event include student groups participating in SLU’s Interfaith Challenge. SLU’s Interfaith Alliance and Jewish Student Association have been especially active in promoting the seder on campus. Rabbi Josef Davidson, Adjunct Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Amoona, will lead the seder and Father Paul Stark, SLU Vice President, Mission and Ministry, will provide the Invocation.
Additional support and partial funding for the seder comes from MAZON and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, which are holding similar seders all over the nation. The St. Louis seder is a program of the JCRC’s Bohm Social Justice Initiative. Attendees are asked to bring canned food items for distribution at local food pantries.
