JCC welcomes two Israeli Scouts to summer day camps
Published May 27, 2015
The Jewish Community Center Day Camp will welcome two young women from Israel to serve as Israeli educators this summer. Michal Silvan and Daphne Pridor are part of the Tzofim (Israeli Scouts) summer delegation and will lead the JCC’s Camp Teva-Outdoor Skill Building camp together with the current JCC shlichah, Ela Bokobza. After two weeks, Michal and Daphne will spend time at Camp Ben Frankel and then return for the final three weeks to the J Day Camps to lead Israel education activities.
Out of 60,000 Tzofim (Israel Scouts) throughout Israel, only approximately 60 are chosen annually for the Tzofim Summer Delegation. These selected 16 and 17-year-olds go through extensive interviews and intensive preparation before coming to the U.S. They have proven leadership experience, a broad knowledge of Israeli and Jewish history, a high level of scouting achievement, fluency in English and strong communication skills. Most of all, they have a desire to share their love for their country and their people. Today, more than 20 summer camps welcome delegation members to assist in all facets of the camping experience each summer, as counselors, scouting specialists and representatives of Israel.
