Interfaith partnership honors Shaare Emeth couple

Harvey and Leanne Schneider of Congregation Shaare Emeth will be honored for their interfaith leadership by the Interfaith Partnership of Greater St. Louis on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the organization’s 2016 Annual Dinner & Celebration.
Doors will open for the event at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m., at the St. Nicholas Family Life Center, 12550 S. Forty Drive in Town and Country. Greek cuisine will be featured, with kosher and vegetarian options available.
Harvey Schneider, 80, a retired attorney, served as president of the Interfaith Partnership Board from 2007-2009 and is a past president of Congregation Shaare Emeth, the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Central Agency for Jewish Education. He has also served on the board of the American Jewish Committee and the NCCJ (formerly the National Conference of Christians and Jews) and led his city’s planning board for 26 years.
Leanne Schneider, a former teacher, has been an active volunteer in Interfaith Partnership programs for years. She also has volunteered for Ready Readers, tutored new Americans and was regional representative for AFS exchange students.
The evening program, moderated by Leslie Heberlie, co-executive director of the Interfaith Partnership, will feature: Dr. Antonios Kireopoulos of the National Council of Churches; Dr. Billie Mayo, Interfaith Partnership president and member of the Baha’i faith; and James Comninellis, member of Byzantine Catholicism and staff member of Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis’ Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.
