The 16th Annual Blumenthal Memorial Concert will take place on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at B’nai Amoona benefiting the congregation’s Mitzvah Corps.
Pianist Fred Blumenthal will perform in memory of his father, Dr. Herman Blumenthal, his mother, Mrs. Eleonore Blumenthal and his brother, Dr. Daniel Blumenthal. He will be joined by the Jewish women’s choir, Kolot.
Dr. H.T. Blumenthal (1913-2006) was a pathologist with interests in public health and diseases of aging. A resident of St. Louis in the 1930s and 40s and from 1947 until his death, he was remembered at his funeral as a research scientist, family man and social activist. Drawing on instructions in funeral prayers to perform acts of charity in memory of the deceased, his son Fred began the Annual Dr. Herman T. Blumenthal Memorial Concerts a year later to raise money for social justice efforts.
Fred Blumenthal is a native of St. Louis. He was choir director at Brith Sholom Knesseth Israel for 17 years. He has been a vice-president of the Guild of Temple Musicians and is vice president and past president of the St. Louis Circle of Jewish Music.

This performance will take place both in-person and streamed live here. The concert is free to attend with a suggested donation of $18 going to Mitzvah Corps.
