Kosher cuisine is stepping into the podcast world with GLATT, a fresh offering from Fleishigs Magazine in partnership with Kosher.com. As the podcast industry continues to boom, Shifra and Shlomo Klein—the powerhouse duo behind Fleishigs Magazine—saw an opportunity to broaden the reach of kosher culture.
“Shlomo and I have produced over 60 issues of Fleishigs Magazine,” Shifra Klein said. “We’ve met so many incredible food personalities, from chefs and cookbook authors to rabbinical leaders and food industry CEOs. Some of our conversations are inspiring, funny, and deeply insightful. While some make it into the magazine, much of the nuance and tone is left out.”
With GLATT, the Kleins aim to change that. The podcast will feature interviews with a variety of guests, covering everything from behind-the-scenes workings of kashrut agencies to practical advice on traveling as a kosher consumer. Shifra and Shlomo are committed to upholding the high standards their readers expect from the magazine.
GLATT will also be available in a video format on Kosher.com, adding a visual layer to the discussions. As Shifra put it, “We want to inspire those who keep kosher by offering content that rivals national food media—and we plan to bring that same level of quality to the podcast.”
Addressing challenges faced by smaller communities
Keeping kosher can be tough outside major Jewish hubs, a reality well understood by the GLATT team. Shlomo Klein, who grew up in South Africa and has family scattered across small towns in the Midwest, including places like St. Louis, knows the challenges firsthand.
“Our brand ethos is about bringing people together through food,” Shlomo said. “We understand that smaller communities often lack the access to kosher food options that places like New York enjoy. But that’s why we’re so excited about this podcast.”
The podcast isn’t just about recipes or ingredient access—it’s about community, inspiration, and practical solutions. Future guests will include private chefs discussing how they source kosher ingredients in remote locations and cookbook authors like Raizy Fried, who shares accessible cooking tips. Shlomo emphasized, “Our first guests will show how the show transcends location, offering inspiration to anyone, anywhere.”
One standout story is Rachel from Ofakim, whose life was literally saved through cooking and feeding those who sought to harm her. The Kleins hope narratives like this will resonate with a wide audience, including listeners in St. Louis.
Spotlighting regional stories, including St. Louis
When asked if GLATT might highlight regional kosher stories, Shlomo was enthusiastic.
“Definitely. At Fleishigs, we focus on creating what we call ‘ungoogalable content’—things you won’t find anywhere else. We’ve talked to people with unique kosher experiences, like a couple in the U.S. Army who kept kosher while serving.”
For St. Louis, where kosher resources have been limited since Kohn’s closure, GLATT could be a game-changer. The podcast will not only entertain and inform but also offer ideas on how smaller communities can adapt and keep kosher traditions thriving.
Shlomo added, “We’re committed to finding and sharing those untold stories, making sure our content is both globally relevant and locally inspiring.”
You can catch the debut of GLATT on Kosher.com.
