‘Garden of Eden’ seeks volunteers
Published June 13, 2012
Visitors to the I.E. Millstone Jewish Community Campus may have noticed that several raised garden beds have been installed near the site of the former outdoor pool at the Jewish Community Center (now ball fields), immediately northeast of the JCC Arts & Education Building.
The garden beds are the result of a partnership between the JCC and the Union for Reform Judaism and have been dubbed the “Garden of Eden.” The garden beds will be tended by individuals from Covenant House/CHAI Apartments and the general Jewish community, raising fresh produce for the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.
Led by Myra Rosenthal, Alan Raymond, Linda Kram and Lesley Levin, volunteers have planted squash, cucumbers, radishes, peppers, tomatoes and other vegetables that will be shared with the food pantry.
The garden is currently seeking members of the community to come and tend the garden.
Volunteers will work on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon.
Those interested in volunteering are asked to contact the organizers and are requested to bring their own trowels and work gloves. For more information, contact Lesley Levin at 314-628-6200.
