The St. Louis Jewish Community Center has appointed Naomi Elbaz as its new shlichah (Israel engagement coordinator). She arrived in St. Louis from Israel at the beginning of the month and will be with the J for the next two years.
Elbaz is originally from the northern part of Israel and moved to Tel Aviv as she grew up. She served as a combat soldier in the Israeli Defense Force’s search and rescue unit and later transitioned to the cyber and technology unit, where she became commander and sergeant. After her military service, she lived in Europe for about six months, working in marketing and real estate sales, which she continued when she moved back to Israel, making homes for many in Israel and remotely in Cyprus.
“I’m excited to be part of the J because I get to work alongside people who are passionate about a shared mission,” said Elbaz. “I’m especially enthusiastic about the opportunity to strengthen the connection between the local community and Israel and showcase the best aspects of my beloved country and my Mizrahi culture.”
Elbaz’s goals for her new role are to build meaningful relationships within the community deepening their connection to Israel. With her experience and skills, she aims to create impactful programs that highlight Israel’s culture, history, and values in a way that resonates with the community here at the J.
“We are so excited to welcome Naomi here at the J,” said Rabbi Brad Horwitz, chief Jewish engagement officer at the J. “She is a talented and creative person with a passion for helping our community engage with Israel, its people, history and culture. I look forward to seeing all of her efforts and the positive impact she will have on the entire St. Louis Jewish community.”
