Covenant/CHAI receives grants for homemaker services

The Jewish Federation of St. Louis Board of Directors allocated $12,444 to subsidize the Homemaker Services program for residents of Covenant House/CHAI apartments, with $6,345 of the allocated funds from the Dorothy Moog Endowment and $6,099 from the United Way of Greater St. Louis.

A $10,000 grant from the JCA Foundation also benefits the Homemaker Services program. The program expands each year as residents continue to age in place.

The ability to maintain a home may determine if someone can live independently or if they will need to live in an assisted living or nursing home environment, said Joan Denison, Covenant/CHAI Executive Director.

“While housekeeping assistance might be a luxury for younger people, for residents who are in their 80s and 90s, it is a necessity,” Denison said. “We are very appreciative of the support.”
