Bradley University Hillel to dedicate new house in Peoria

Bradley University Hillel has announced the opening and dedication of its new house at 1532 West Fredonia Avenue in Peoria, Ill. The dedication ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, followed by a reception with kosher refreshments. All are welcome to attend.
The new house is the culmination of over a decade of work and cooperation, with help from the Bradley and Peoria communities, the Hillels of Illinois, students, parents, alumni and friends.
The new facility is housed in a 4,200 square foot building, a renovated and expanded residential structure at the southwest corner of campus. The new Bradley Hillel includes separate kosher meat and dairy kitchens (under Chicago Rabbinic Council [CRC] supervision); a dining area with seating for 100; an office; a library; space for social activities; and a large sanctuary with a vaulted ceiling and stained glass overlays on the windows.
Last year, kosher sandwiches and pre-packaged meals were made available in two food centers on campus. And at the start of the fall 2011 semester, the university will start serving hot meals from its own kosher meat and dairy kitchens (under CRC supervision).
Also beginning this fall, Bradley Hillel will employ Rabbis Daniel and Karen Bogard as part-time directors. Hillel will be sharing the Bogards’ services with Peoria’s Reform Congregation Anshai Emeth.
