B’nai B’rith of St. Louis will honor Tommy Goldenberg during “Honoring A Music Master” at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at the Jewish Community Center Staenberg Family Complex, 2 Millstone Campus Drive in Creve Coeur.
The event will feature a sit-down dinner and entertainment by Irene Fox and Friends. Tickets are $20 ($45 for patron level tickets).
Goldenberg, 90, is a well-known entertainer in St. Louis, who has volunteered his services for a variety of organizations in the Jewish community. Jewish Light Editor-in-Chief Emeritus Robert A. Cohn will serve as the event’s emcee.
Goldenberg long has been active in community affairs and organization work for many years, but since his retirement he has made volunteerism, through music, his “full time” endeavor.
Goldenberg’s volunteer work has included work for senior living centers, nursing homes, hospitals, veteran homes, congregations, charitable organizations and clubs. He has volunteered extensively at the JCC for more than 35 years and with the Cedars at the JCA (now the Cedars of Town & Country) for 40 years.
Goldenberg has been married to Esther for 68 years and the couple has two children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He and his wife are members of the Senior Adult Board at the JCC. The couple was made honorary life members of the Older Adult Community Action Program.
Goldenberg’s performances have raised money for the JCC’s Tommy & Esther Goldenberg Senior Adult Fund, which helps provide funds for adult programs and services at the JCC. The fund received matching funds from the state of Missouri to purchase a van for the Meals on Wheels program, one 16-passenger bus and five 20-passenger buses for the JCC. The buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and are used to transfer senior adults for Adult Day Services and other activities at the JCC.
