During her life, Rebecca Starr Rothman, fondly known as “Becky, the Queen of Carpet,” became a local icon as she enchanted the hearts of many while riding her magic carpet around the Gateway Arch in locally produced television commercials for her carpet business, Becky’s Carpet & Tile Superstore.
Rothman was a passionate lover of life and a charitable soul as well. Her daughter, Rachel Reynolds, says her mother donated her time and talents to many local organizations. And now, just three months since her passing in May, Rothman is once again trying to help others.
Reynolds, with the help of local estate sale company, Jonnco Estate Sales, have created an online auction, which is currently running, to sell off Becky’s fashion designer items.
“All proceeds will benefit Dress for Success Midwest,” said Reynolds. “The sale focuses on casual and formal clothing, outerwear, shoes, accessories, purses and bags. We will also be auctioning off an autographed headshot signed in April 2023.”
The online auction runs through Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 9 p.m.
After the auction closes, a second sale will begin for two days only. “Becky Rothman’s Designer and Accessories Sale Part 2” will begin Saturday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at The American Legion Post 397 building in Creve Coeur.
You can see most of the items that will be for sale, online.
“Ninety-nine percent of the items are from after her weight loss surgery, however, a lot of it is still new or lightly worn. She loved a good designer deal, but there will be some Walmart and Target items mixed in,” said Reynolds.
You’ll also find more than 250 items including designer dresses, Louis Vuitton jeans, Dior shoes, Steve Madden, Baker, Beverly Feldman, Bordello, Jack Rogers, Nike, Jessica Simpson, L.A.M.B., Zalo, and more. All clothing is clean and ready for purchase.
“I have a fond (but hopefully not false) memory of going with her to a plus-size clothing store near Northwest Plaza in the late 1990s,” remembers Reynolds.
“She wore her green Queen of Carpet dress and a crown and helped a few ladies through Dress For Success pick out outfits. She always loved a good ‘fashion show’ when I bought new outfits and I know she’d be honored to see her clothing help dress others in the area and support a local charity. This Halloween, there will be a lot of Barbies, but I also hope to see some Becky’s, too!”
