Bais Abraham welcomes noted historian for talk on archaeological discoveries
Published February 29, 2012
Historian, author and archaeologist Richard Freund will present “The Temple Treasures: Were They Found in a Dead Sea Cave?” at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at Bais Abraham Congregation, 6910 Delmar Boulevard.
In 2000, Freund organized an expedition to the Judean desert cave first explored by Israeli archeologist Yigael Yadin.
Freund believed that more was buried, left untouched under heavy debris fallen from the cave ceiling. What Freund and his team found sheds new light on the earlier expedition.
Freund is the Maurice Greenberg Professor of History at the University of Hartford, and directed seven archaeological projects in Israel and three projects in Europe including. He appeared in the 2011 National Geographic special “Finding Atlantis” and NOVA’s “Ancient Refuge in the Holy Land” is based upon his book, “Secrets of the Cave of Letters.” He also is the author or co-author of eight books and just finished a new book, “Digging through History: Archaeology and Religion from Atlantis to the Holocaust,” which will be published in 2012.
The lecture costs $5 and is open to the public. For more information, visit www.baisabe.com or call 314-721-3030.
