Bais Abe plans summer Shabbaton with scholar-in-residence

The Yeshivat Maharat summer tour will visit Bais Abraham Congregation on July 28 for a scholar-in-residence Shabbaton with Shira Eliassian.
The following talks are planned:
• Shabbat Morning Drasha (Shacharit starts at 9 a.m.):
“Dreaming in the Wake of Loss: Shabbat Nachamu and Moshe’s Final Plea”
• Lunch and Learn at noon: “Torn Loyalties: Feminism, Judaism, & the Reshaping of Tradition”
• Seudah Shlishit at 7 p.m. “The Founding of a Religious Discipline: Talmud Torah in Rabbinic Literature.”
Eliassian is the Richard and Sylvia Kaufman Fellow at the University of Chicago Divinity School, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in Jewish studies. Her work focuses on the history of Judaism during the rise of Christianity. Eliassian most recently served as scholar-in-residence for JOFA UK’s Be’er Miriam program, where she lectured on Jewish feminism on campuses throughout England and Scotland. She has also participated in teaching for the #YourTorah podcast, and has taught in communities throughout New York and Chicago.
Shira played a critical role in shaping the first ever JOFA Maharat Summer Tour, and is delighted to have the opportunity to participate this year by making a stop in St. Louis.
