What is the Talmud, and why does it remain a cornerstone of Jewish learning after 1,500 years? Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m., Rabbi Avi Rubenfeld will lead “Decoding the Talmud,” a six-week course offered by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI). Designed for all knowledge levels, this engaging program will introduce students to key Talmudic figures, fundamental logic principles, and historical context—unlocking the depth of this foundational Jewish text.
Despite being one of Judaism’s most essential texts, many struggle to explain exactly what the Talmud is and how it shapes Jewish thought. This immersive course will guide participants through its intricate history, core teachings, and major commentators, helping them navigate and understand its vast collection of wisdom.
Students will explore the intellectual debates, legal discussions, and moral insights that have kept the Talmud relevant for centuries. The course also breaks down key terminology, logical structures, and interpretative methods to make Talmudic study accessible—even for those with no prior background in Jewish learning.
Open to all, regardless of religious affiliation or experience, “Decoding the Talmud” welcomes both beginners and seasoned learners. Attendees will engage in authentic Talmudic study, gaining the tools needed to explore this timeless text independently.
