Megan Andreasson
Congregation Temple Israel
Megan has been scaling heights all her young life. But, it was still a surprise to her family when she said she wanted her bat mitzvah to take place in Israel. Surrounded by family, including her parents, Rachel and Thomas Andreasson of Sullivan, Mo., Megan’s ceremony took place atop Mount Masada with Temple Israel’s Rabbi Mark Shook in attendance.
Growing up in Sullivan, Megan learned community responsibility from her grandfather “Pop” Bill Wallis. Bill, who passed away in 2001, was a long time supporter of the Boys and Girls Town of Missouri (BAGT), including serving on its Board of Directors. Wallis’ commitment to BAGT is legendary. The Bill Wallis Recreational Center in St. James, Mo. attests to that.
Megan, honoring her “Pop” and carrying on the family tradition, requested that guests who came to her country and western themed “Root’n and Toot’n” Bat Mitzvah party donate to BAGT. And, that they did.
A student at Sullivan Middle School, Megan made everyone proud by presenting the Boys and Girls Town of Missouri a check for $5,807. This money will be used for the Meramec Adventure Learning Ranch in Steelville, Mo. Every summer, challenging ropes courses, hiking, and swimming activities enable kids who have been neglected or who are dealing with emotional and behavioral issues to improve their self-esteem and develop positive relationships with peers and family.
