Mitzvot from the Heart: Brian Schenberg

Brian Schenberg| United Hebrew Congregation

Camp Emeth has been Brian’s home away from home every summer for the past nine years. One of the programs at camp is visiting the Dolan Memory Care Home in Creve Coeur.

The campers would plan weekly activities for the residents such as ring toss, using hula-hoops and pool noodles. Other examples were lanyard bracelets and coloring.

For his mitzvah project, Brian, son of Tami and David Schenberg of Chesterfield, was inspired to help older adults by his visits to Dolan. During last winter break from Parkway Central Middle School, Brian volunteered his afternoons at Delmar Gardens. His grandmother, Ellen Biener, is a resident there.

Brian assisted with bingo, musical instruments and arts and crafts and helped transport the residents in wheelchairs from room to room. He really enjoyed the opportunity to help others and to spend some extra time with his Grandma Ellen.
