Abby Suffian, United Hebrew Congregation

Abby, daughter of Traci and Joel Suffian of Creve Coeur, loves going away to camp every summer. She wanted the kids at Camp Rainbow to have as wonderful and unforgettable experience as she has had.
For her mitzvah project, Abby donated items, raised money and volunteered her time to benefit Camp Rainbow, a sleepover camp in Wildwood, Mo. for children with cancer.
For one month last year, Abby placed two large boxes at the front doors of United Hebrew and was able to collect over 75 books, as well as games and art supplies. She held a donut sale, with the help of her friends, one Sunday morning before religious school and raised over $100. Abby’s centerpieces, filled with games, from her Kiddush luncheon were also donated to Camp Rainbow.
“My favorite part of my mitzvah project was going to Camp Rainbow. I made hats with the children and danced with them,” said Abby, a student at Whitfield School.
“The kids were excited to do my activity and that made me feel good about doing something fun for these children,” she continued. “This experience helped me realize how lucky I am to be happy and healthy. Thank you to all who supported Camp Rainbow during my mitzvah project.”
Camp Rainbow is a weeklong sleepover camp for children ages 6 to 13 that have had or are currently living with cancer or other blood-related disorders. To make a donation in Abby’s honor or for more information, please visit their website at www.camprainbow.com.
