Spiritual Leader: Cantor Joshua Finkel
Rabbi Emeritus: Rabbi Lane Steinger
At Shir Hadash, expect to be wowed with a warm welcome the first time you visit, and already part of a small, inclusive community by your second visit.
Expect to enjoy inspiring music with our spiritual leader, Cantor Joshua Finkel. Expect monthly Mini Minyan gatherings for families with young children featuring songs, stories, and fun age-appropriate learning with Cantor Josh.
Expect to learn new ideas and perspectives from our intellectual discussions every week that deal with Torah, ethics, the arts, current events and Jewish history and culture. Do not expect a sermon; the congregation only has one of those a year.
Expect user-friendly Shabbat and holiday celebrations, observances and services that express the best of liberal Judaism. Those who don’t know Hebrew will be fine; everything is transliterated.
Expect to enjoy potluck dinners to celebrate the first Shabbat of each month. Good food and great company are a wonderful combination.
Expect a Reconstructionist approach to Judaism that is both deeply rooted and boldly relevant. We believe in an evolving Judaism that integrates Jewish tradition, music, culture and art with contemporary American life.
Expect to be wowed by the community, friendship, music, observance, study, intellect, participation, inclusiveness and egalitarianism at Shir Hadash.
Check out the congregation’s online event calendar for service and program dates and times.
Richard Katz is President.
