Choosing Israel: Midrash and the choice to be a Jew
How do Jews by birth describe Jews by choice? Jeff Spitzer of Kol Rinah shares a selection of midrashic texts that will challenge participants to confront the ways in which Jewish culture appreciates and honors converts to Judaism while recognizing some of the ways in which Jews by birth might feel ambivalent about newcomers. This class will encourage all Jews — both native and naturalized — to think about what it means to choose to be in a covenant with God and the people of Israel.
