Bat mitzvah: Avery Newmark
Published May 13, 2021
Avery Newmark, the daughter of Todd and Karen Newmark of Leawood, Kan., will become a bat mitzvah May 15 at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.
Avery is the granddaughter of David and Linda Marcus, and the late Stevan Newmark of Creve Coeur, and Brad and Linda Finkle of Leawood. Avery has one sister, Leah, who is 10 years old.
A seventh-grade student at Leawood Middle School, Avery is active in orchestra, basketball, tennis, piano and art.
Given the devastating impact that COVID-19 has had, Avery saw an important need in helping others in a way that was meaningful to the pandemic recovery. For her mitzvah project, Avery decided to sew face masks for those who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Avery provided these masks to a local homeless shelter.
