If you’ve been eagerly waiting for “Kugel,” the highly anticipated spinoff of “Shtisel,” you’re not alone. The St. Louis Jewish Film Festival had planned an exclusive screening on March 9, but organizers have now cancelled the event while working to reschedule it.
The good news? You don’t have to wait. “Kugel,” the six-episode prequel series, will officially stream in the U.S. on IZZY starting Feb. 28—so you can still be among the first to watch.
How to Watch “Kugel”
Fans of “Shtisel” can stream “Kugel” on IZZY, the Tel Aviv based subscription video on demand (SVOD) channel for Israeli features, documentaries and tv series.
To watch, simply:
- Visit IZZY’s website.
- Choose a subscription plan (monthly or annual).
- Start watching “Kugel” and step back into the world of Nuchem and Libbi—before they arrived in Israel.
Why is it called “Kugel?”
- Nuchem, once known for his business schemes, discovers an unexpected passion for making Jerusalem-style kugel at a restaurant owned by Pnina Baumbach (played by Israeli comedian Rotem Abouhab).
- In a “Ratatouille”-like moment, his first taste of kugel sparks something deeper, reminding him of home, love, and second chances.
- “Shtisel” co-creator Yehonatan Indursky describes the show as “a story to remind us that each person is a once-in-a-lifetime noodle in the great sea of noodles that makes up one big, Jerusalem-style kugel”.’
What to expect from “Kugel”
Unlike “Shtisel,” which takes place in Jerusalem, “Kugel” shifts the story to Antwerp’s Haredi Jewish community. It follows Nuchem (Sasson Gabai) and his daughter Libbi (Hadas Yaron) as they navigate life, family, and unexpected new beginnings.
