Ha-Shemesh (The Sun) has performed for families and organizations throughout St. Louis as well as in Kansas City and Illinois since the mid-1970s. Our repertoire includes music of liturgy, songs of Israel, and Yiddish, Ladino and Yemenite melodies.

Performances include Shabbat and other holiday services at many local synagogues, other synagogue celebrations and fundraising events, private family simchas including Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, and other family celebrations. Ha-Shemesh has also performed at the International Institute’s Festival of Nations, the Missouri Botanical Garden’s annual Festival of Lights Chanukah celebration, the annual Shabbat St. Louis community-wide Shabbat service, events with the Circle of Jewish Music, St. Louis’s First Night celebrations, and other community-wide events.

Members are Judi Furman (flute), Rob Birenbaum (tof drum), Bob Barth (guitar), Ron Cytron (guitar) and Michael Lyss (mandolin).
