When your passion becomes your profession—and your profession just happens to be ice cream—it’s safe to say you’ve never worked a day in your life. On June 24, Beckie Jacobs, founder of Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream, will be the featured guest at the next Coffee Talk from the National Council of Jewish Women-St. Louis (NCJWSTL).
The virtual event runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., offering guests a chance to hear Jacobs’ story, from launching her business in 2003 to becoming one of St. Louis’ most beloved ice cream makers.
Jacobs, who left a career in accounting to pursue her love of frozen desserts, launched Serendipity with one goal in mind: to make seriously good ice cream, from scratch and with care. “After so many beloved years, my customers have truly become family,” Jacobs told the Jewish Light in 2021.
She continues to innovate while staying rooted in her mission. “Ice cream is perfect for breakfast because it breaks up a monotonous cold winter with a little indoor fun,” she said in a 2023 interview about one of her shop’s signature events, Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.
Coffee Talk, hosted monthly by Susan Katzman and Lisa Gubernik, keeps things casual and hyperlocal. The series often opens with a baby photo, features a Q&A at the end and attracts a community audience curious about local changemakers.
