JERUSALEM (JTA) — Filmmaker and actor Assi Dayan, the son of the late IDF general and former Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, has died.

Dayan was discovered dead in his Tel Aviv home on Thursday. He was 68 and had suffered from serious health problems, according to Israeli media.

Dayan appeared on about 50 Israeli films and television series, and directed at least 16 films, including some considered Israeli classics.

In recent years, he starred in the popular television drama “B’Tipul” or In Treatment, which was adapted for United States television.

He began his acting career in the 1967 film “He Walked Through the Fields.” Among the films he directed were “Halfon Hill Doesn’t Answer,” “Life According to Agfa,” and “An Electric Blanket named Moshe.”

He received a lifetime achievement award at the Jerusalem International Film Festival in 1998.
