Two must-see films streaming in honor of Anne Frank’s 95th birthday

In observance of what would have been Anne Frank’s 95th birthday on June 12, two acclaimed short films, “The Anne Frank Gift Shop” and “Anne,” will be available for online streaming from June 12-19. These films aim to present Anne Frank’s legacy with new perspectives with contemporary themes and issues.

The films will be accessible via the YouTube channel of Reboot Studios a nonprofit that creates Jewish content for theater, television, film, podcasts, music and publishing.

“The Anne Frank Gift Shop”

“The Anne Frank Gift Shop” is a dark comedy by author and journalist Mickey Rapkin and addresses antisemitism. The film follows a high-end design firm’s controversial proposal to modernize the gift shop at The Anne Frank House, sparking a debate on how collective trauma and the Holocaust should be remembered. This film was nominated for the Best Live Action Short category at the 96th Academy Awards.

“Anne”

In “Anne,” the film centers on two actresses competing for the role of Anne Frank in a stage production, with the audition process igniting discussions on color-blind casting and ownership of historical narratives. “Anne” received a 2024 Silver Telly Award for its innovative approach and diverse perspectives.

“Anne Frank’s story is more than a historical account; it’s a timeless beacon of hope and resilience,” said Noam Dromi, managing director of Reboot Studios and producer of The Anne Frank Gift Shop. “These films delve into her legacy, exploring themes that are as relevant today as they were decades ago. By presenting her story in new ways, we ensure that its lessons continue to inspire and educate future generations.”
