The podcast “How to Destroy Everything” is coming home to St. Louis for a one-night event. Jewish St. Louisans Danny Jacobs and Darren Grodsky, who created the podcast, will be featured in a live show at STL Stylehouse at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13. The live show and Q&A will cap off season one of the podcast.
“How To Destroy Everything” traces the backstory of Danny Jacobs’ peculiar childhood, living with a father who was banned from restaurants, hacked emails and forged signatures. The podcast focuses on Jacobs’ late father. It is a compelling story that treats mental illness with sensitivity.
Breaking through the millions of registered podcasts isn’t easy, but “How to Destroy Everything” has achieved No. 3 on all U.S. Apple podcasts and No. 1 on the society and culture subset. Podnews gives it a 4.4-star (out of 5) rating based on 2,187 reviews.
Jacobs and Grodsky, based in Hollywood, are veterans of the entertainment industry. The homecoming was the brainchild of Jeff and Randy Vines, owners of STL Style. The Vines brothers first met Jacobs and Grodsky when they were in kindergarten.
“We went all through elementary school, junior high, and high school together, and even summer camp at Camp Taum Sauk,” Jeff Vines said. “They almost feel like extended family to us. We’ve been following the podcast, and we have so many friends and other people who bring up the podcast about how they’re listening to it. And we just thought, ‘Let’s throw a party.’”
The Vines discussed the possibility with Jacobs, Grodsky and the producer of the podcast. The result will be a live performance by Jacobs and Grodsky, behind-the-scenes conversations, and a moderated audience Q&A. There is a limited capacity for the event, which will include light refreshments and drinks. Tickets are available for purchase here.
