Fox 2 partnering with National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis to help young students

NCJWSTL will team up with Fox 2 for their “Founder’s Day of Community Service.”

Fox’s parent company, Nexstar Media Group, created the annual program to celebrate the company’s anniversary by giving back, and this year they’ve chosen to partner with NCJWSTL! Fox 2 volunteers will assist NCJWSTL on Friday, June 16, with preparations for our Back to School! Store campaign and broadcast live from the NCJWSTL office.

Since the first “Back to School! Store” in 2000, the NCJWSTL has served more than 26,000 children in our community. The lack of school supplies and personal items is a primary barrier to attending school. Families are forced to prioritize spending on food and necessities, with few funds available for school supplies and clothing. “Back to School!” Store addresses this barrier by providing brand new backpacks, school supplies, books, coats, hats, gloves, personal care items and other essentials they need to start and attend school with confidence and self-esteem. This confidence boost instills a joy of learning and motivates students to stay in school.

An annual one-day event, “Back to School!” Store takes place this August. Fox 2 volunteers will play a large role in helping us sort coats, fill backpacks, and box books as we prepare to provide winter gear and back-to-school supplies to 2,000 children from the St. Louis area.  In addition, NCJWSTL volunteers will be joined by our partner agency, Dignity Period, to assemble period kits to be distributed to young women and their families. Ellen Alper, CEO, shared “this event is the first time we’ve partnered with Fox 2 for this effort and we’re excited to have our volunteers work with and meet the Fox 2 employees to get everything prepared for the program. So much effort goes into getting ready to serve 2000 children and this collaboration will help in such a big way.”
