Artist Jasmine Raskas has an exhibition at COCA through Dec. 10 called “Eternal Jungle,” which she describes as an immersive installation, including sculpture, painting, light, sound and touch.
“The goal of this installation is to explore sentience and question our relationship to non-animal forms of life (both real and imagined),” she explains in an artist statement. “In seeking to understand the point at which objects and systems are labeled as intelligent, conscious, or alive, we can together explore our ability to feel empathy and connectedness toward our environment. This exhibit investigates feelings of awe, wonder and ethereal delight. Strange yet familiar, it is an embrace of play and an experience of otherworldly desires.”
Raskas will lead a workshop for children ages 6 to 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at COCA where she will guide students through the process of character creation. The class will explore the relationship between materials and emotions, and the importance of using craft to connect with nature and other living things. You can sign up for the class, which costs $25, here.
The artist will also lead a group meditation for peace and harmony following the “Eternal Jungle” soundscape from 11:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and 10.
