We should not have gone in to Libya

BY GENE CARTON

As much as I feel that Qaddafi and his forces must be defeated, I really think the United States should have sat this one out. It’s time that the Arab League steps up to the plate by following its talk-the-talk rhetoric with walk-the-walk action. U.S. national security is certainly not threatened, and as such, can’t go on being the world’s policeman.

No matter how one slices it, enforcing a “no-fly zone” is an act of war, which means we’re now involved in three wars. I can’t help but feel that France is involved because it feels guilty about not supporting the U.S. and coalition forces in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. We should realize that no matter how things turn out in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya there will never be true democracy in these nations.
