Watching the bowl games
Published January 3, 2012
For football fanatics, my husband included, this truly is “the most wonderful time of the year.” It seems as if every time we turn on the television, there is a Bowl Game being played somewhere across the country! And with football games, we invariably find the typical array of sporting-event snacks: chili, chips and salsa, pretzels, etc.
I have been married long enough to realize that one simply can’t enjoy a Bowl Game without munching. However, there is a very easy trick that can help you and your guests refrain from overindulging. This, too, is a bowl game of sorts. Offering smaller bowls and plates for guests to use almost guarantees that less food will be consumed. This Bowl Game has the added visual benefit of seeming like more food, and subconsciously fills your guests up! Even if they go for a second helping in the second half, the total consumption will end up being less using a smaller bowl.
Have you ever noticed that when the munchies have been consumed, and all that is left on the coffee table are empty bowls and used napkins, nobody seems to want or need more food? Try using smaller serving bowls as well when setting up your buffet table. You will be doing yourself and your guests a favor as we head into those New Year / new body resolutions!
Happy Holidays!
