Librescu saved lives
It is both ironic and profoundly tragic that Holocaust survivor, Professor Liviu Librescu, would lose his life in the Virginia Tech massacres on April 16, which is Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day). This date in the Jewish calendar remembers those who perished during the Holocaust, as well as honors those who bravely rose up against the Nazi oppressors and saved Jews, in spite of the risks to their own lives.
Professor Librescu blocked a classroom door with his body, while students were able to jump to safety. We at the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center pay tribute to his heroism and sacrifice.
