William Marshall Friedman

William Marshall Friedman, Ph.D., (a former trustee of the St. Louis Jewish Light) died September 1, 2015 at the age of 76.  The cause of death was due to heart complications. He was born on October 26, 1938, and was a 1956 graduate of University City High School. Friedman received his bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis; his master’s degree and Ph.D. from St. Louis University. Friedman held a number of administrative positions throughout his career. Those positions included: General Manager for a wholesale firm; Director of Purchasing for a quasi-governmental agency; Vice-President for Administration for a national manufacturing firm; and Executive Vice president for a St. Louis manufacturing firm. He was associated with Fontbonne University in the following positions: Professor of Management; Chairman, Department of Business & Administration; and Dean for all programs in Business & Administration. He was elected to professor emeritus status upon his retirement and was the first Business & Administration faculty  to be so elected in the history of the university. He also served as management consultant to industry, government, and higher educational institutions. Friedman served in the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Arthur Friedman and the late Edythe Friedman. He is survived by his loving wife, the former  Gail Schapiro, of 54 years; by his loving children, Laurie Sue Friedman and John Todd Friedman, Ph.D. (Fatima); and his loving granddaughters, Estelle Mueller-Friedman and Morena Mueller-Friedman. He was also the loving brother of his sisters, Linda (Arthur) Tilley, Jill (Terry) Chapin and Jacki (Steven) Saylan.  He was a dear uncle, cousin and friend. Private graveside service was held.  Contributions to a charity of your choice.  Please visit bergermemorialchapel.com for more information.
