Theodore Frank Schwartz, of University City, Missouri, died peacefully on January 10th, 2019, at the age of 83 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s. Ted graduated from Clayton High School knowing he wanted to be a lawyer. He attended the University of Miami and then Washington University in St. Louis, where he met his wife Babs. He obtained his law degree from Washington University in 1962. While attending law school, he worked as a union butcher at Bettendorf Markets and for the late attorney Charlie Shaw, trying a murder case his first week of practice. He started his own law practice in the mid1960’s. He was a legendary attorney known for his tremendous courtroom acumen, custom made suits with matching ties and lining, full-length mink coats, and Rolls Royce’s. He was licensed to practice law in Missouri, California, New York, Florida, and the District of Columbia. He maintained offices in Clayton, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. He was also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and every Federal Court of Appeal. Ted represented countless clients, big and small, in legal matters all over the world. He was legal counsel to Dollar Rent a Car for many years, litigating franchise and port authority matters across the country. Ted loved and lived the law, even after surviving an attempted mob car bombing. Ted was of a generation of lawyers who never retire,they just lose their appeal.
Ted is survived by his wife Babs, sons Kenneth (Mary Ann) and Michael (Kristie) and grandchildren Elizabeth, Diana, Ellie, Jared and Zane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mary, and his sister Elene Ginsburg.
