Sylvia M. Wallis, age 94,  May 22, 2017

Beloved wife of 67 years of the late Bernard L. Wallis.  Sylvia is survived by her sons Robert Wallis (Jonnie Marks) and Jerold (Lisa) Wallis, her adored grandchildren Sarah, Rachel, Kimberly and Danielle and their families.  She will also be missed by her extended family and dear friends.

Sylvia had a long and active life. She was born at home in the Bronx, the only child of her immigrant parents. She graduated from Brooklyn College, and later was proud to earn a Master’s degree in Public Health from C W Post College.  She worked for the Nassau County (Long Island, New York) health department for 29 years, and eventually became Director of Management and Budget. Sylvia and Bernie traveled widely including many Elderhostel programs and annual multi-generational trips to the Caribbean for almost 50 years with marine biology friends. They moved  to Florida full-time in 2001. While in Florida they enjoyed the company and assistance of their niece, Jackie Kohn.  Sylvia moved to the Gatesworth residence in St. Louis in 2016 to be nearer her son Jerold and his family.  Sylvia was an accomplished artist, painting up until the last month of her life.  If you wish, paint or sketch something, and think of Sylvia while you do so.  A family memorial gathering will be held.  Contributions may be sent to Planned Parenthood, 4251 Forest Park Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108 or a charity of your choice.  Berger Memorial Service.
