Sylvia Bensky Zveitel

Sylvia Bensky Zveitel, February 3, 2020

Sylvia passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones. Her compassion and radiant smile warmed any room.  Wife of the late Irving Zveitel, her adoring husband and love of her life to whom she was married for 54 years; mother of Greg (Tasha Crancer) Zveitel and Jamie (Alan) Kwiatek; grandmother of Jeffrey, Bradley and Adi Kwiatek; sister of Geraldine (Ira Jerome) Friedman; aunt, great-aunt, cousin and dear friend; loving companion to furry grand-pups Pete, Liko and Champ.

Sylvia was born in Memphis, Tenn., and raised in Little Rock, Ark. She and her family have lived in St. Louis since 1960. In addition to her endless devotion to family, Sylvia was deeply committed to improving and enhancing the lives of others. Most notably, her students at Meramec Elementary School in the Clayton School District benefited from her decades of dedication to outstanding teaching. She was an active member of United Hebrew Congregation and involved in many efforts to strengthen the St. Louis Jewish community. Sylvia also was a lover of the cultural arts and long-time volunteer docent with the St. Louis Symphony.

Funeral service Thursday, February 6, 12:00 PM at United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road with interment to follow at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Road.  Visitation with Sylvia’s family beginning at 11:30 AM until time of service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO.org) in Sylvia’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
