Stanley Martin Wilensky

Stanley Martin Wilensky, died March 7, 2016. Beloved husband & best friend of Donna (Lerner) Wilensky. Dear father of Mark, Molly & the late Benjamin Harold Wilensky. Son of the late Bill (late Shirley) Wilensky.  Brother & brother-in-law of Judy (Larry) Lazerwitz. Son-in-law of Ethel & Jerry Lerner. Brother-in-law of Gary (Cheryl) Lerner, Dean (Deana) Lerner, & Eve (Don) Rudolph. Our dear uncle, cousin & friend.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at 35, Stan dedicated himself to fighting the disease and ensuring others would have an easier time. He was the first man in St. Louis to have deep brain stimulation implant surgery (DBS) in April 2000 at Barnes Jewish Hospital and co-facilitated a DBS support group to discuss the surgery with prospective patients. He participated in Mini-Medical classes with childhood friend, Dr. Joel Perlmutter, demonstrating the impact of DBS surgery and how it controlled the symptoms of Parkinson’s. He sat on the board of the American Parkinson Disease Associaton – St. Louis Chapter from 2001-11 and donated his brain to Dr. Perlmutter for research into Parkinson’s Disease.

Stan loved music, cars and all things Mizzou, Cardinals and Blues. Before the disease forced retirement, he was an avid bowler, owning one 800 series, and golfer. He was often found on the course during the season. He was brave, a fighter and never complained. Stan was our hero.

At Stan’s request, please send donations to Dr. Joel Perlmutter, Campus Box 8111, 660 S. Euclid Ave. 63110. Memo line: Dr. Joel Perlmutter Parkinson’s Research.
