Shirley Jean Gerring, April 1, 1936-Nov. 1, 2015. Shirley J. Gerring (neé Kallen), 79, of Watertown, NY, passed away in her sleep in St. Louis, Mo., after a long illness. She spent the majority of her adult life in Buffalo, N.Y., and upon retirement moved to Boca Raton, Fla.
She was the wife of the late Paul Gerring, and is survived by her children, Debra Schuster (Klein) and late Daniel P. Schuster, Judie Klein-Stapleton (Frank), and Adam Klein (Erin), and step-children David Gerring, and Lisa Perelstein (Gerring), grandsons Jamie Schuster, Evan Schuster, Liam Klein, Isaac Klein, and Kevin Perelstein, and granddaughters Tabitha Klein, and Sarah Perelstein. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Kallen and Anne Kallen (neé Coahn) from Russia and Gloversville, N.Y., respectively, and her beloved brother Merwyn. She also adored her nieces Irene George, Shirley Kallen and her great niece and nephews, Nancy, Paul and George.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, social worker, cat lover and friend to all she met.
She enjoyed reading, board and card games, exercise (her religion), loved animals and music (especially jazz) and her friends. She was a consistent and diligent correspondent with family and friends and tried to keep in touch with everyone in her life.
There will be a celebration of her life in the spring of 2016, in Buffalo.
We deeply thank all of the care provided to our mother by the loving caregivers at Parc Provence, Schuetz Manor (Dolan Memory Care Centers) and VNA Hospice of Greater St. Louis.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to VNA of Greater St. Louis, Memory Care Solutions Home Solutions and any feline charity of your choice in her honor, would be appreciated.
