Shirley Inez Appel, November 12, 2023, Age 104
Beloved wife of the late Eli Appel for 62 years. Dear mother of Larry (Lisa) Appel, Richard Appel and Adrienne (Jay) Magner. Cherished grandmother of Rodney Appel, Dawn (Ronnie) Thomas, Michael & David Appel, Keith (Karen) Appel, Nicole (Matthew) Perry, and Emma & Arielle Magner. Loving great-grandmother of Brandon Appel, Sam, Elliot & Griffin Thomas, Cameron & Olivia Perry and Nolan & Evan Appel. Beloved sister of the late Herman (Anita) Finkel, and the late Melba (Morris) Shapiro. Loving sister-in-law of the late Ben & Dora Appel and the late Ben & Sophie Balber. Cherished daughter of the late Alfred and Rose (Goldberg) Finkel. Our dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.
Shirley was born in St. Louis, MO on April 15, 1919. As a youth, she and her family lived in Paducah, KY for several years. She played saxophone and was the only female member in her high school band. She was employed as a saleswoman in women’s fashion and thoroughly enjoyed working with her customers and fellow employees. Shirley was proud that she was a centenarian and let everyone know it. She had a witty sense of humor, maintained a positive attitude and a love for life. She loved music, dancing, plants, flowers and birdwatching. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Service Monday, November 20, 11:30am at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road with interment to follow at Chevra Kadisha Cemetery, 1601 North and South Road.
