Sanford “Sandy” Shifrin

Sanford “Sandy” Shifrin, died peacefully September 23, 2014. Son of the late Max and Bess (Glassman) Shifrin; beloved husband of 56 years to Charlyne (Goldman) Shifrin; dear brother of Larry and the late Eugene and Allen; loving father of Debbie Evans and Lisa (Robert) Barnitt; dear grandfather of Stephanie Chesnick, Rebecca (Steven) Ast, Rachel and Elizabeth Barnitt; dear great-grandfather of Evan and Emily Ast.  Sandy was born on November 10, 1924 in St. Louis, Mo. where he resided until moving to Scottsdale, Az. in 1996.  He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre and was awarded 3 bronze stars for service in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns.  He rose through the ranks from Private to Captain and was honorably discharged from the Army.  He attended Yale University and received a degree in Business Administration from The University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. in 1949. He was employed as a sales manager at Puritan Chemical Company and owned his own Commercial Services business, retiring in 1989.  Sandy now rests at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. He will be fondly remembered by the many lives he touched.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Navy SEAL Foundation or other organizations that support Veterans or First Responders.
