Sandra Gold

Sandra Gold, nee Steinback, daughter of the late Sol Steinback and the late Dorothy Vittert, and much loved stepdaughter of the late G.A. Vittert, died on March 1, 2016 in Chicago after a long and brave struggle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Gold, her brother Kenneth (Marilyn) Steinback, her sister Marilyn (the late David) Lipman, and her brother Murray Vittert. She is also survived by her children Debra Gold (Marshall Brewer) and Douglas (Felice) Gold and by five grandchildren, Sofia and Isabelle Gold and Samuel, Yoseb, and Yohan Brewer, whose much loved Nonny she was.

Sandra, a graduate of Washington University (A.B. 1962) and Dominican University (MLS 1978), was a law librarian and director of information services for over thirty years for three major Chicago law firms. She was active in, and a leader in the American Association of Law Libraries, the Special Libraries Association, and the American Library Association. She was a regular contributor to professional journals and was for several years an adjunct professor of law librarianship at Dominican University.

Sandra was born in St. Louis, MO on September 4, 1940. She moved with her family to Evanston in 1970. During her twenty-seven years in Evanston she was active in the League of Women Voters and the Democratic Party of Evanston. She served for three years on the Evanston Planning Commission. In recent years she was an active participant in Skyline Village, Chicago and the Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

Interment will take place Sunday, March 6th, 1:30 PM at B’nai Amoona Cemetery, 930 North and South Road in St. Louis. A funeral service was held on Friday, March 4th in Evanston, IL 60202.
